About the
AABC
The Associated Artists of Butler
County is the oldest cultural organization in Butler County. Our rich history
began in 1934 as our intent to provide a forum
for the exchange of ideas, as well as to encourage and foster art. >From 19
original members our organization has grown to over 350 members.
In 1990 The Associated Artists of Butler County
moved to our current residence at 344 South Main Street and established The
Art Center.
The new home of the Associated Artists of Butler County provides year round
exhibits free and open to the public for viewing. There are nine shows a year
scheduled in the Rittelmann Gallery, The Member's Gallery, The Underground
Gallery and The Mezzanine Gallery. The Kid's Art Center features work by our
young artists in the After School Program. We have several classrooms, a
pottery lab with kilns and a library. The Gallery Shop provides the public
with the opportunity to purchase work by our many talented members.
The Spirit Cafe is held every Friday night (except during opening receptions)
from 7 – 9 pm and serves as an open forum for the expression of art.

The town of
Butler is located just 35 minutes north of Pittsburgh along Route 8 in Butler
County.
It is easily accessible via the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

National Call for Artists

MARCH 7 – APRIL 18, 2008
Associated Artists of Butler County (AABC) are pleased to announce a call for artists for an exhibit to open in The Underground Gallery. The show will be held from MARCH 7 – APRIL 18, 2008. Deadline for entry forms and fees is February 22, 2008. AABC members may take advantage of an early entry special.
GRAPHICA, ‘The Power of Words & Images’ is a new exhibit and is open to all artists 18 years and over. This is a themed show and must represent ‘The Power of Words & Images’. Graphic design is the process of communicating visually and using typography and image to present information. Graphic design is a process and a product, and GRAPHICA is where Graphic Arts and Fine Arts meet. All media will be accepted including computer-generated art, digital photography, oil, acrylic etc. Professional design companies are encouraged to submit multiple entries showcasing their designers. Prizes will be awarded.
GRAPHICA will have two gala receptions – the first reception will be held on Friday, March 7th and the second reception on Friday, April 4th. Both receptions are from 7 – 9 pm at The Art Center. The receptions are free and open to the public; light refreshments served.
Judges prizes and monetary awards will be presented during the March 7th opening and People’s Choice Award will be presented on April 4th. The Art Center is a large airy open facility and is located at 344 South Main Street in Butler, PA The site has been home to AABC for over 15 years. The Underground Gallery is located on the lower level, and is popular for its avant-garde presentation for exhibits.

Alan Byrne is a native of New York, but has been living in the Western Pennsylvania area for over thirty years. A graduate of Penn State with a Master in Theatre Arts, he worked as a scenic and lighting designer for twenty-five years. Since 1999 Byrne has been teaching graphic design in Pittsburgh and this new avocation has lead him to the computer arts. Most recently he has been creating digital paintings in Photoshop using his own photographs as source material. Byrne is a member of the Pittsburgh Society of Artists and the Associate Artists of Pittsburgh where he serves on the board. He has exhibited at The Art Center in Butler as well as the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts and the Carnegie Museum.
