“In the Shadow of Steel” is a contemporary art installation that puts on display for the first time relics of Sewickley’s illustrious past as the home of the Steel Barons, specifically the Jones family of Jones & Laughlin Steel, placed next to pieces of discarded industry from the Greater Pittsburgh Area. A dual question is being raised with this show: is this the dirge of a society that has fallen to ruin, or is this the ash from which a society is created?  The objects represent a narrative of Sewickley and Pittsburgh, its origins, the height of its societal influence, and Sewickley’s current decline. Objects come from all parts of Pittsburgh's rich history, whether considered jewels or junk. The excavated Items are from everywhere, from Iron City's recently closed factory in Bloomfield to the dresser set of BF Jones, III.  Also on display will be a musical installation by Steve Nishimura, combining recordings from steel production recorded by USS Steel as well as live feed from the gallery.  For information contact: International Images, Ltd., 514 Beaver Street, Sewickley, at 412 741 3036 or e-mail, art@internationalimagesltd.com<mailto:art@internationalimagesltd.com>
