“Model Wanted for Art Class”
Avg. $15-$18 per hour *
Modeling for art classes can be a
good part-time job. And if you have 3) recent and local reference over
twenty (20) schools, galleries and art centers hire models in the Pittsburgh
area. But getting information about
and experience in figure modeling can be a problem. Schools and instructors
cannot be faulted for preferring
to only use models with references indicating experience and known
reliability. For over seven (7) years, The
Art Model Orientation Class allows schools and instructors to hire a new model
with the expectation the model
will arrive ready to work. Including on the model’s first paid booking.
The advantage to art education is obvious. The advantages to the new model include but are not limited to
1) learning basic skills and information academically
2) having your first experience as a model, where if you change your mind, no harm is done.
3) the luxury of learning basic skills and practice them before your first paid booking
4) arriving at your first paid booking with confidence you will do a good job
5) telephone, email, and in person support for the first 6 months
6) The right to repeat a portion or all of the course at no cost any time within 6 months (by appointment).
The Art Model Orientation Class has 4 parts.
A) Technique – the special
vocabulary used by teachers and models, types of poses, where to find
suggestions for poses, avoiding common mistakes, what to carry with you,
practice you can do at home;
B) Business of being a model –
marketing yourself, what the schools will expect of you, what you should
expect from the schools, how much and how you get paid;
C) View an ongoing figure session including an opportunity to ask questions of the working model;
D) An evaluation pose (maximum 10 minutes) as the model for artists attending a figure session or class,
Art Model Orientation Class is
offered by appointment only. As we have no public funding, a minimum
donation of $35.00 is requested to help cover the cost of keeping the program
up to date, telephone and office
costs and handouts. If you cannot afford a one time donation of $35 - payment
plans and rare partial or full
scholarships may be available.
