CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: MAYOR'S AWARD FOR PUBLIC ART

Deadline: May 23, 2011 at 5pm

The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council seeks nominations for the Mayor’s Award for Public Art, recognizing an individual’s or organization’s efforts in the development of high quality public art. This award was established in 2007 by Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl to acknowledge the power of public art to benefit the region economically, socially, and aesthetically, and to celebrate those who are most committed to supporting this important element of our community. The 2011 award will be presented at the Greater Pittsburgh Art Council’s annual meeting on June 8, 2011 at the August Wilson Center.

Mayor Luke Ravenstahl will select a finalist based on the quality and impact of the public art project or initiative.
 

Nomination Process
 
Nominations Criteria
1) Individual and organizational nominees must have implemented a work of public art or developed a public art initiative in the Pittsburgh region.
2) Organizational nominees must be located in Pittsburgh region. Artists do not have to be located in the Pittsburgh region.
3) Self-nominations are welcomed.
4) Completed nominations must be received in the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council offices by 5:00 pm on Monday, May 23, 2011.
 

Application Materials
To complete a nomination for the award, please submit the following:

1. A complete nomination form.
2. A nomination statement that includes a detailed explanation of the individual’s or organization’s involvement in a public art project or initiative that has contributed economically, socially, and aesthetically to a Pittsburgh neighborhood. The statement must not exceed 500 words.
3. Nominees must provide between 2-4 pieces of visual support materials, such as photographs or brochures that describe the nominated project. These may be submitted in hardcopy or on a disc in PDF format.

Deadline
Nominations must be received in the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council offices by 5:00 pm on Monday, May 23, 2011. Send nomination form, statement, and visual support materials to: 2011 Work of Art Award Nominations, 810 Penn Avenue, Suite 200, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. Late nominations will not be considered.

Notification
The finalist will be selected by Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and notified by June 3, 2011.
