Open Ceramics Studio at Sweetwater.
Sweetwater is sponsoring an open studio sessions in support of an “Empty
Bowls” fundraising event hosted by
Just Harvest, a local organization that
works towards the elimination of hunger and poverty. Anyone can attend
these
open studio sessions to help fight against hunger by providing bowls
to donate to Just Harvest’s “Empty Bowls” dinner fundraiser. A Sweetwater
instructor will be on hand to assist those with no prior experience, and
both wheel throwing
and hand building options will be available. Clay is
provided by Sweetwater, and all bowls created will be left at the
Center to
be glazed and donated to Just Harvest.

Once Upon a Time…
When We Were Colored (a film directed by Tim Reid, 113 min.)
Sweetwater is teaming up with the Sewickley public library to present a film
in honor of Black History Month. The film, which explores life in the black
neighborhood of Glen Allan, Mississippi, from the mid-’40s to the dawn of
the civil rights movement, depicts a community and its coming to terms with
the steps it must take to fight racism and achieve political rights.

Friday, February 29: Howie Alexander Trio,
The Howie Alexander Trio performs an eclectic mix of traditional and
contemporary jazz. Alexander is a well known local jazz pianist and
performs with a variety of local projects.

CERAMIC SALE
Sweetwater’s Ceramic & Sculpture instructors and their students display and
sell their work in
Sweetwater’s Community Room for a day! Ceramic pieces
available for purchase will represent a wide range of styles and functions,
including mugs, vases, dishes, sculptures, plaques and more! A portion of the
proceeds of all sales will benefit Sweetwater’s Ceramic Studio.
This event is
held in conjunction with the opening reception of the Instructor Clay Work and
Juicy Terracotta ceramic exhibitions.

JUICY TERRACOTTA
National and internationally recognized ceramic artists Helen Otterson, Kari
Radasch, Elizabeth Coleman and Ayumi Horie present an exhibition featuring
functional and sculptural terra cotta work, revealing the rich and juicy
nature of the medium. The artists will be on hand to discuss their work at
the reception, held in conjunction with the NCECA conference. A reception
for this exhibit will be held on Friday, March 21, from 6-9 p.m.
